If you’re a coffee lover then no doubt you’ve visited your local Starbucks more times than you can ever begin to count. Think back to when Starbucks introduced a new pink-purple swirl that seemed to have been born from a fairy-tale, the Unicorn Frappuccino. Now only Starbucks could ever describe such a concoction, “Magical flavors start off sweet and fruity transforming to pleasantly sour.” Moreover, they go on to add that, “It’s finished with whipped cream-sprinkled pink and blue fairy powders.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Typically whenever Starbucks unveils a new drink, everyone has an opinion. And well, in this case, it was definitely a either you love it…or you hate it. Let’s just say, we’re glad the Unicorn Frappuccino was only available for a week.
Now that we’ve said all that, it’s only fair we introduce a totally new craze that was inspired by the Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino. Folks, we’re proud to introduce…Mermaid Lemonade. Thanks to The Glowing Fridge we’ve got our hands on the perfect recipe. And yes, it is as scrumptious as it looks. Oh yeah, it’s incredibly healthy too! That adorable Caribbean-blue color comes from spirulina powder, an algae packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Furthermore, the spirulina powder helps to control allergies as it has anti-inflammatory properties. Wait, it doesn’t stop there either. The drink includes coconut vinegar which is similar to the health benefits of apple cider vinegar.
So are you ready to get your hands on this beautiful, tasty recipe? We know you are. Take a look below and don’t be surprised if you’re making this lemonade liquid on a daily basis.
Mermaid Lemonade Ingredients:
3 cups filtered water
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 tablespoon coconut vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
1-2 teaspoons maple syrup, optional (or agave nectar)
1/8-1/4 teaspoon spirulina powder
A handful of ice cubes
Pour the water into a mason jar, or any cup really, and stir in all of the ingredients until well combined. That’s it! Of course you can also make the Mermaid Lemonade a bit more “adult” by adding some “spirits”.
Whenever life’s a beach, the answer is simple…pour back some Mermaid Lemonade and chill.
