Then it all exploded. Steve approached his ‘parents’. Confrontation ensued and Steve had to go. “I ran away. Got into a car and drove to the nearest town, which was 20 miles away, rented a motel room… with my friends.”

Steve could only run for so long. Then he heard a knock on the motel door. Joanie stood there as he opened it. He was feeling resentment for so long toward Don and Mary that he had forgotten about Joanie.
