During a televised interview broadcast in 1987, just before Laguna Heat aired, Selleck revealed something surprising about his career! He said, “I was planning to go into Architecture. But when I arrived [to sign up for courses], ‘Architecture’ was filled up. ‘Acting’ was right next to it. So I signed up for Acting instead.” What a difference that made!

The Magnum P.I. character was created to compete with the character of James Bond – seductive, intelligent, marksman, and master of several other skills and craft. Tom Selleck, however, convinced the producers to make the character more humble and friendly. A decision that obviously went down well with fans of the show.
