While attending USC, Tom played on basketball team. However, he was not destined for the NBA. After a drama coach told him to try acting, he ended up at Beverly Hills Playhouse, where he enrolled in Milton Katselas’ acting classes. Little did he know, this decision would help him greatly later in his life.

Tom did not choose to support Hilary Clinton nor Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential election. Instead, he chose to write in a candidate, former Dallas Police Department Chief David Brown. Selleck said he did this due to the fact that he respected how Brown handled the Dallas police shooting in 2016.
